May 14th Meeting

What do character designer Takahiro Yoshimatsu, voice actor Tohru Furuya, and anime director Seiji Mizushima have in common? They're all visiting San Jose over Memorial Day Weekend! Join us as we gear up for FanimeCon by enjoying some of their work.

Showings are presented in Japanese language audio with English subtitles and are suggested for ages 13 and over unless otherwise specified. Starting times are approximate: Come early! No-Name Anime meetings are presented in and co-sponsored by the Santa Clara City Central Park Library. Many thanks to the library for hosting our meetings! This month, we're in the Cedar Room. "The Sixty Billion Dollar Man" - Notorious gunman Vash the Stampede leaves a path of destruction across the planet. On his trail are two insurance adjusters, assigned to minimize their company's losses. Their task is difficult because Vash is far from his reputation, and some problems cannot be solved with doughnuts. Takahiro Yoshimatsu did the character designs.

However, Kyosuke and his family have non-standard powers, and Kyosuke is trying to keep those powers a secret from both girls and from his friends. Tohru Furuya is the voice of Kyosuke Kasuga.

"Disaster from the Sea" - 21st Century Defense Security Corp is holding its 2030 Security Show. Akagi, Ibuki, and Aoyama are assigned to entertain women and children, and Dai-Guard, once the pride of the corporation and designed to combat Heterodynes, is now an old and decrepit prop. All that changes when disaster appears out of the sea. Seiji Mizushima is credited with directing and storyboards.

13:25 Abunai! Break time!
Two librarians will be giving free panels at FanimeCon. Gilles Poitras, a librarian at Golden Gate University, will discuss what parents want to know about anime and manga in "Anime for Parents" on Friday, May 27, at 7pm. Ruth Boyer from the Contra Costa County Library system will entertain kids of all ages with songs, stories, rhymes, and fingerplays during "Storytime @ Fanime" on Saturday, May 28, at 10am. Both panels will be located in the Salon I-II rooms of the Marriott hotel next to the San Jose Convention Center.
