January 8th Meeting

Happy New Year! We're evaluating new shows for the new year, and we would like your input. Before break, we'll continue several of our regular shows: The Twelve Kingdoms, Planetes, Mythical Detective Loki Ragnarok, and Tweeny Witches. After the break, we'll explore four different anime and ask for your opinions about them. Your feedback will help determine what we watch this coming year.

Showings are presented in Japanese language audio with English subtitles and are suggested for ages 13 and over unless otherwise specified. Starting times are approximate: Come early! No-Name Anime meetings are presented in and co-sponsored by the Santa Clara City Central Park Library. Many thanks to the library for hosting our meetings! This month, we're in the Cedar Room. "Great Distance in the Wind, Sky at Dawn, Chapter 12" - Suzu had joined a group in Shisui who oppose Shoukou. In Meikaku, Shoukei had joined a group trying to get Gahou removed from office. Queen Youko had returned to the Rike to find that Rangyouko is dead, Keikei is severely wounded, and Enho is captured. Now, Suzu visits Meikaku to pick up up a shipment.

Random trivia: The Heisei era started on January 8, 1989. In Japan, each era is associated with the reigning emperor, and the Heisei era started when Akihito became the Emperor of Japan. Akihito will be known as "Emperor Heisei" after his death. The previous era was called Showa, and Emperor Showa was Akihito's father, Hirohito. In The Twelve Kingdoms, the rulers follow a similar naming scheme, and the name of Youko's era was Sekiraku.
