In this poignant classic, two warring groups of tanuki (raccoon dogs) must find a way
to deal with the loss of their land due to humans taking it over for their own
buildings. What follows is an epic struggle using every means at their command,
either to reclaim the land from the humans, or find a new place to live, or to
co-exist with the humans. Various themes, from wildlife extinction and environmental
problems, to generation gaps, to the subsuming of one culture by another, are dealt
with here.
