Event: Idol Fes Tamagawa and other things in Japan
At Boat Race Tamagawa there a small lake/big pond (maybe artificial) just north of the Tamagawa river on the west side of Tokyo. There is betting on small boats that race around the lake. It was the site of "Idol Fes in Boat Race Tamagawa vol. 9" on August 31, 2013. There was a small stage in an area that was covered (no direct sun), but was not air conditioned. The weather was hot and humid. There were three idol groups:
Vanilla Beans,
Carmel Ribbon and
nanoCUNE. Starting just after 10am, about every half hour one of the three groups would perform a short set of two or three songs. Vanilla Beans performed four times; the other two groups each performed three times. Many of the performances were followed by a handshake/autograph/whatever session. This continued until about 3pm when there was a closing presentation with a raffle.
One of Carmel Ribbon's staff was not afraid to try speaking English. He said that his group would be performing at the stage under the Ferris Wheel at Yokohama Cosmo World on the next afternoon. Carmel Ribbon and Lyrical School performed in full sun with 90F, 77% humidity (102F heat index) weather. It's tough to be an idol!

Hatsune Miku's birthday is August 31. On the day before it was celebrated with "Hatsune Miku Magic Mirai 2013". This included two concerts at the 17,000-person-capacity Yokohama Arena in Shin-Yokohama. No one from No-Name staff was able to get into the actual concert, so our report only includes some pictures of an itasha (wrapped car) parked near the Arena.

Afilia Maho-Gakuin / The Afilia Magic Senior High School (The Afilia High School for Female Wizards) in Ikebukuro is maid (or cosplay or theme) cafe.
On rare occasions, members of the idol group Afilia Saga, whose songs have been used in Steins;Gate and other anime, work at this cafe. During a shift change, more than 10 cast members packed the small restaurant/bar.
Dear Cafe in Yokohama is a small, neighborhood kind of maid cafe. There was one maid behind the counter and one for the tables. While food was being prepared, the maid brought a binder with pictures and flyers from past special events to look through.
